Jordan 2-2 Nigeria: Super Eagles held by Al-Nashama despite goals from Simon and Fernandez

The Super Eagles of Nigeria ended their four-nation tourney with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Jordan's Al-Nashama on Tuesday evening in Antalya, Turkey, as the team rounded off their first international break since the Africa Cup of Nations.

The match marked a series of changes for Eric Chelle’s side following their 2-1 victory over Iran in the previous friendly.

Chelle made six changes to the starting lineup, giving opportunities to several new faces. Genk forward Yira Sor earned his first cap for the Super Eagles, making a promising debut, while Emmanuel Fernandez was handed his first start and partnered Igoh Ogbu in central defence.

The defensive pairing looked composed, with Fernandez making a notable contribution both at the back and in attack.

The game began with Jordan taking an early lead through Mousa Al-Taamari, whose strike tested Nigeria’s goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

The Super Eagles responded well, and in the 26th minute, Moses Simon equalised after reacting quickly to a blocked attempt from Ademola Lookman, keeping Nigeria in contention.

The first half ended on a high note for Nigeria when Emmanuel Fernandez scored his first goal for the national team just before the break, ghosting in at the far post to slot home and give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Jordan, however, proved resilient in the second period, and Mohammad Al Daoud found the net in the 77th minute to level the scores.

Nigeria pushed hard in the closing stages, and the team looking to reclaim the lead, but the match ended 2-2.

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi received a red card in stoppage time following an aggressive reaction to a challenge.

The draw concluded Nigeria’s mini-tour unbeaten and offered Chelle valuable insight into his squad’s depth, particularly with the integration of new talents like Sor and Fernandez.
