Respected African football pundit Mamadou Gaye has urged South African giants Kaizer Chiefs to appoint a permanent head coach, suggesting former Nigeria manager and captain Sunday Oliseh as a potential candidate.
The Glamour Boys have been without a substantive coach since October 2025 when they parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi via mutual agreement.
Following the departure of Nabi, Kaizer Chiefs announced that coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will lead the technical team on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
With the duo in the dugout, Kaizer Chiefs currently occupy the third position in the PSL standings and only need a draw in their final group game to advance to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Gaye questioned how a club of Chiefs' stature could continue operating without a full-time appointment, insisting that stability and professionalism demand a properly installed coach rather than a prolonged caretaker arrangement.
“A professional club like Kaizer Chiefs, I expect them to have a permanent coach. How long have they been playing without a permanent coach?” Mamadou Gaye said on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa.
"Everybody expects a professional club to have a permanent coach. Stability comes with a professionally appointed coach. Simple as that.
"All the top clubs in the world can’t go eight months or one year with a caretaker coach."
On his suggestion about who Kaizer Chiefs should consider as permanent coach, Gaye answered: "Let them take Sunday Oliseh. I’m just throwing out a name; there are many out there."
Currenty a free agent, Oliseh has managed Verviétois, Fortuna Sittard and SV 19 Straelen in the past, but he's best known for his spell as Super Eagles coach.
