Manchester United continue to run the rule over Olowu as defender goes 90 vs Chelsea U23s
Manchester United have not yet made a decision on whether or not to offer Nigerian-born center back Joseph Olowu a contract.
The former Arsenal youth team skipper has been training with the Red Devils U23s since August 4 with a view to signing a deal, and participated in pre-season friendlies against Kidderminster Harriers and Sheffield Wednesday, but was left out of their season opener with Leicester City on August 15.
Olowu returned to the squad for Friday's Premier League 2 clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with manager Neil Wood naming him, Dillon Hoogewerf and Shola Shoretire in the starting line-up.
United were the better team in the opening twenty minutes but Chelsea grew into the game without forcing any meaningful save from goalkeeper Kovar.
Just after the hour mark, Josh Brooking was sent off after a cynical foul on Hoogewerf which made Chelsea's task of winning the game more difficult.
Despite having a man less than their opponents, Chelsea took the lead in the 73rd minute as Harvey Vale converted a spot kick after Olowu was penalized for a tackle on Soonsup-Bell.
The United number four received a yellow card even though it looked like he got a touch on the ball.
Manchester United were level late on as álvaro Fernández drilled in an equaliser to salvage a point.
Olowu and Shoretire went the distance while Hoogewerf was substituted in the 85th minute; Chelsea's Bryan Fiabema was an unused substitute.
