'Morocco look scary' - Super Eagles star Iwobi admits before blockbuster Afcon semifinal clash

Alex Iwobi has acknowledged that Morocco will be formidable opponents ahead of Nigeria's highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash, admitting the Atlas Lions looked scary after their impressive display against five-time champions Cameroon.

The Super Eagles set up a blockbuster clash with the Atlas Lions in Rabat on Wednesday, following a 2-0 win over Algeria, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams finding the back of the net in the second half.

While Nigeria are aiming to win their first continental title since 2013, Morocco have not won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1976.

The Morocco squad boasts an array of top-level players, including Manchester United's Noussair Mazraoui, Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi, Real Madrid's Brahim Díaz, Fenerbahçe's Youssef En-Nesyri and Olympiakos' Ayoub El Kaabi.

Morocco's defensive solidity and attacking threat have marked them out as serious title contenders, making the semifinal a true test of Nigeria's ambitions.

Speaking candidly, Iwobi revealed that Morocco's performance against Cameroon left a strong impression, even before the two sides were confirmed to meet in the semifinals.

"The night before the game. Just seeing Morocco beat Cameroon, Morocco looking decent, looking scary, but still hopeful we can meet them next round," Iwobi said on Alexander Yaa Digg YouTube channel.

"We have to believe, so we can achieve. Our team is good."

If Iwobi is named in the starting line-up on Wednesday, as widely expected, the Fulham man will set a new record as the Nigerian midfielder with the most appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations, overtaking his uncle Austin Okocha and John Obi Mikel.
