New Nigeria Coach Oliseh Shuts The Door On Aluko, Akpan, Oshaniwa And Ukoh

One of the salient points picked during Wednesday morning’s unveiling of Sunday Oliseh as the new manager of the Super Eagles is a revelation from the ex Juventus midfielder, stating that he will no longer invite players that ply their trade outside the top leagues to the national team.

Thus, the likes of Sone Aluko (Hull City), Hope Akpan (Reading), Juwon Oshaniwa (Ashdod) and Steven Ukoh (Biel-Bienne FC) will not be considered for call - ups in future matches unless they changes clubs before the next Afcon qualifier against Tanzania.

“ I’m not coming as a messiah. I’m coming as a man who wants to serve his country and give 150%,” Sunday Oliseh said.

“Gone are the days when we had individual players who can win games on their own. But we have potential.

“No player outside of first division in Nigeria or elsewhere will play for Super Eagles.”

Oliseh’s pronouncements appear irrational as it means Odion Ighalo (Watford), Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough FC), Leon Balogun (Darmstadt 98) and Steven Ukoh (Biel-Bienne FC) would not have been invited for the Afcon tie against Chad, assuming he was the coach as at that time.
