Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has delivered a positive update on Semi Ajayi’s fitness, confirming the Nigerian defender is set to resume full training next week.
Ajayi, who joined the Tigers as a free agent last summer, has yet to make an appearance for the Championship side since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Arsenal defender played an important role for Nigeria at the tournament in Morocco, helping the Super Eagles secure a bronze medal after their 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt.
Since returning to the club, Ajayi has been sidelined, missing six matches across all competitions, including the Championship and FA Cup.
In quotes relayed by Hull Daily Mail, Jakirovic confirmed that the Super Eagles centre-back is expected to rejoin group training next week.
"Crooksy looks like he will be available for Portsmouth away, Semi Ajayi, next week he will start group training with us," Jakirovic said.
His return to training comes as a timely boost for the Croatian manager, who has been dealing with fitness concerns within the squad as the Tigers intensify their push for promotion back to the Premier League.
When fully fit, Ajayi has been an important presence for the side, making twelve appearances and scoring once.
