Nantes’ backline has endured a difficult season and currently ranks among the three weakest defenses in the French top flight.

Since Ahmed Kantari took over as manager, the team has continued to struggle defensively.

Nicolas Cozza, Kelvin Amian, Tylel Tati and Awaziem have all experienced a demanding campaign marked by recurring errors that have proven costly in several matches.

Tylel Tati has been particularly affected by the coach’s tactical decisions. He has been singled out as responsible for several goals conceded, leading to his exclusion from the team at times. The situation has highlighted tensions within the defensive unit.

Despite the overall struggles at the back, Awaziem has emerged as the most notable performer among the group.

Statistical websites have ranked the Nigeria international centre-back as Nantes’ best player this season.

The 29-year-old holds a notable record in Ligue 1, having made the most clearances (158) in the competition.

He leads the category ahead of Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell (152) and Lorient’s Montassar Talbi (143).

Awaziem’s clearance record reflects his consistent presence in dealing with opposition attacks around the Nantes penalty area.

His performances have shown his ability to read the game and intercept balls played into dangerous areas.

In addition to his defensive work, the Nigerian has also played a large number of long balls during the season. He currently ranks second in Ligue 1 for long passes, behind Vitinha.

However, Awaziem has also accumulated misplaced passes, particularly when attempting forward distribution.
