No going back: AS Trencin's Yakubu joins Ukrainian table-toppers LNZ, Gent miss out

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Ukrainian Premier League table-toppers FC LNZ Cherkasy have won the race for the signature of promising Nigerian midfielder Adam Yakubu.

There is no going back on the deal, with only an official announcement pending, as Yakubu has already put pen to paper on a multi-year contract with the Cherkasy-based club ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.

The 20-year-old attracted interest across Europe after a series of eye-catching performances for AS Trenčín since the start of the season.

In addition to FC LNZ Cherkasy, Belgian side KAA Gent, Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv and English Championship club Norwich City were all credited with an interest in the combative midfielder.

Signed from Plateau United in the summer of 2024, Yakubu is set to depart AS Trenčín after making 33 appearances in all competitions for the two-time Slovak champions.

Still a work in progress at just 20, the talented midfielder will now continue his development at FC LNZ Cherkasy, who are leading the Ukrainian Premier League standings with 35 points from 16 matches and are emerging as title contenders in their pursuit of a first-ever league crown.

Yakubu is poised to become the second Nigerian signed by FC LNZ Cherkasy in the 2025-2026 season, after Prosper Obah, who is heavily linked with an imminent transfer to Ukrainian giants FC Shakhtar Donetsk
