Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that Victor Osimhen will be assessed during Nigeria’s final training session ahead of their last Group C fixture against Uganda on Tuesday.
Osimhen, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Monday, sparked fitness concerns after clutching his groin in the first half of Nigeria’s vital 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night.
Despite the discomfort, the Galatasaray forward played the full 90 minutes, leaving fans anxious about his availability for the decisive group encounter.
Addressing the media during his post-match press conference, Chelle played down fears of a serious injury, stating that Osimhen and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali experienced only minor pain.
“There is no injury, just little pain for Stanley and Victor. But they can play. They want to play. We would see in the training session,” he revealed.
“If the players are fit, if they are ready in their mind, I am talking about the 28 players.”
Osimhen made a timely return to the scoresheet against Tunisia, heading home to open the scoring and end his AFCON goal drought.
Prior to the strike, the striker had gone seven consecutive tournament games without a goal, with his previous AFCON effort coming against Equatorial Guinea in the opening match of the last edition.
With confidence restored, Osimhen will be eager to maintain his momentum and inspire Nigeria as they push to top the group and set their sights on a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.
