Through their official website, European champions Chelsea announced this week that Nigeria-eligible fullback Richard Olise has signed a new contract with the club.
Richard is the younger brother of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, who was named on the reserve roster for the national team's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March.
In his first words after putting pen to paper, Richard Olise said : "It means a lot, I have been at this club my whole life so it's a good achievement.
"I am a right back first of all, I like defending, I like getting forward as well, making runs in behind. "
Olise is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Andreas Christensen, who rose through the academy ranks before earning promotion to the first team of Chelsea.
"I'm watching them doing what they do because they came from the academy like me, it is giving me hope."
This season, 2004-born defender Olise has gone the
distance in all the games played by Chelsea in the U18 Premier League,
helping them register four straight wins in the division.
