Ojo on target in first competitive appearance for Liverpool U23s since August 2018

Sheyi Ojo played a key role as Liverpool registered their first win of the new Premier League 2 season, beating Everton 3-1 in a Merseyside derby staged at Southport FC on Monday night.

The 2017 U20 World Cup winner with England had not figured for The Reds development squad in a competitive fixture since going the distance in a league game with Brighton & Hove on August 10, 2018.

Though Ojo is not age-eligible to play for Liverpool U23s in a competitive fixture as he was born before January 1, 1998, teams are permitted to field three 'over-age' outfield players in every Premier League 2 match.

The 24-year-old has been training with the U23s ahead of a loan or permanent departure from Liverpool before the transfer window closes.

Five minutes before half-time, the exciting winger opened the scoring when he slotted beyond Zan-Luk Leban after he was played through on goal.

Liverpool's other scorers were Kaide Gordon and Max Woltman, while Garcia netted a consolation for the Toffees.

Ojo got much needed game time with a full shift against Everton U23s.
