Super Eagles right-back Tyronne Ebuehi will miss the upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali respectively.
This follows an official statement from his club's website, Empoli stating that the 28-year-old suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during their Serie A encounter with Bologna last Friday.
The Nigeria international had to be taken off in the 66th of the game and was replaced by Ghanaian right back Emmanuel Gyasi.
Ebuehi has been struggling with his fitness since the turn of the year, having just recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of action until this month.
He has featured in two Serie A games since the start of 2024, a direct contrast to his fitness levels during the start of the season, where he didn't miss any game due to injury.
This would be a big blow for the Netherlands-born fullback who must have been hoping to regain his place in the Super Eagles.
He was sidelined for the most part of José Peseiro's reign as coach, featuring in just two games under the departed Portuguese tactician.
The Empoli fullback joins Luton Town center-back Gabriel Osho among the players that have been invited for upcoming friendly games but won't participate due to injuries.
