Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola is back at parent club Arsenal to work on his recovery ahead of the start of pre-season training (as pictured), allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Akinola is technically still a player of Dundee United as his loan deal with the Scottish Premiership club runs out in June but his season was cut short after he suffered a serious ankle injury whilst training with The Tangerines.

If his recovery goes according to plan, the 21-year-old will be fit to take part in pre-season preparations.

Akinola had to undergo surgery last month after Dundee United striker Marc McNulty made a horrendous tackle on him as the players took part in a possession-based drill.

Since his celebrated move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2020, Akinola has yet to make his first team debut but has trained with the first team on countless occasions.

In the event that he makes his Premier League debut for Arsenal next season, he would become the third Nigerian-born player to feature for the Gunners in the Premier League after Nwankwo Kanu and Alex Iwobi.

The former Huddersfield Town starlet made fifteen appearances in the Premier League 2 before his loan move to Dundee United.
