Atletico Madrid coach provides update on Lookman's recovery from minor injury

Diego Simeone has offered a cautiously optimistic update on Ademola Lookman ahead of Atlético Madrid’s clash with Elche on Wednesday.

Lookman picked up an abductor muscle injury during the Copa del Rey Final against Real Sociedad on Saturday, forcing him off in the second half.

The Nigeria international, who had earlier opened the scoring in the first half, was substituted for Nicolás González in the 63rd minute.

Addressing the media in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Simeone confirmed that the injury is not considered serious.

“Well, we'll see how Alex Sorloth and Lookman recover from this minor injury they've had," Simeone said via Futbol Fantasy

The Argentine manager also suggested that the Ademola Lookman could be in line to return to action when Atlético Madrid face Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

"Hopefully they'll be fully recovered for Saturday, which is possible, according to the doctors, who are more knowledgeable,” he added.

Lookman’s possible return will come as a big boost for Diego Simeone ahead of Atlético Madrid’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal.

The 28-year-old, who joined the club during the winter transfer window from Atalanta, has been one of Atlético’s best players since his arrival.

With the Champions League now their only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season, Simeone will be hoping Lookman is fit in time to strengthen the attack and improve their chances against Arsenal.
