Emmanuel Fernandez has been named in the starting lineup for the Super Eagles’ friendly against Jordan on Tuesday evening, marking the Rangers centre‑back’s first start for Nigeria’s senior team, allnigeriasoccer.com understands. 

The 24‑year‑old has quickly become one of the promising additions to the national squad during a period of defensive reshaping.

Fernandez earned his maiden international cap on 27 March 2026, coming off the bench in a 2‑1 friendly victory over Iran in Antalya, Turkey.

He replaced Semi Ajayi at half‑time and helped Nigeria maintain its lead, displaying composure, aerial strength, and tactical awareness that impressed both teammates and coaching staff.

Head coach Eric Chelle included Fernandez in his March squad as part of a strategic effort to bolster Nigeria’s backline, particularly given the absence of senior defenders such as Calvin Bassey.
