Obafemi Martins : The Competition In MLS Is Strong
Interviewed by the official website of Fifa, Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins, who previously had spells with Newcastle United and Birmingham City, has compared the English Premier League to the MLS.

'' It’s a bit like England. The competition in MLS is strong and they’re physical as well.

'' And the league is getting much better, and every team out there wants to win, so we have to be ready,'' says Martins to fifa.com.

Martins trademark celebration whenever he is on the score-sheet is by performing back-flips, whose origin can be traced to the streets where he learned to play the game.

'' I learned to do the backflip in Nigeria because I was just doing it for fun, but all of a sudden I became really good at it.

"I was doing it with friends, and they told me, ‘Now you’re playing soccer. Why can’t you simply score goals and do the flip?’

''They said, ‘Try it. It’s going to be fun. I think people will really love it.’ All of a sudden I started doing it, and now people love it,'' said the Super Eagles forward.

28 - year - old Obafemi Martins is Seattle Sounders top scorer in the championship, netting 7 goals (3 assists) in 14 appearances.
