Updated - South Africa v Nigeria : How The Players Rated
The encounter on Wednesday between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana was more than a friendly as both teams used  the tie to fine-tune strategies ahead of vital World Cup qualifying matches in September.

And for that reason, manager Stephen Keshi came to South Africa with a strong squad, despite the late withdrawals of Chelsea star John Mikel Obi and Fenerbahce new boy Emmanuel Emenike.

Here's how allnigeriasoccer.com experts rated the players :

Austin Ejide : 8/10 - The Hapoel Be'er Sheva number one illustrated his ability to concentrate when other pressure. Untroubled early on but saved balls from Rantie and Parker.

Efe Ambrose : 6.5 - Efe came under severe scrutiny from the fans after his below par performance at the Fifa Confederations Cup. However, it was an improved display from the Celtic utility man.

Elderson Uwa Echiejile : 7 - While his defensive qualities were never in doubt, these days Echiejile is exhibiting traits of a modern day full back. Apart from Nwofor's goals, the lasting memory we took away from the game against South Africa was when the Braga wing back sneaked into the opponent's penalty box in the 16th minute but he volleyed over the bar. Vintage Uwa.

Godfrey Oboabona : 7 - .Not the best performance by the Rizespor bound center-back.

Azubuike Egwuekwe : 5
-  At times he was too heavy.  The Oboabona - Egwuekwe partnership did not show signs of being a going concern in future matches.

John Ogu : 8.5 - If not for Nwofor's goals, the Academica man would have won the Man of the Match award. Blessed with a good physique, Ogu showed his intelligence, knew when to go forward and when to return to his position. A threat with his balls from distance.

Eddy Onazi : 8 - In the absence of Mikel Obi, Onazi was one of the reasons why the Chelsea man was not missed. Was one of Nigeria's impressive players on display. Broke up South Africa's passing several times. Well done Eddy!

Sunday Mba: 6 - They mystery surrounding the Enugu Rangers midfielder continued on Wednesday night in South Africa, where he was a hero six months back. Has a tendency to drift in and out of games. Produced an excellent pass to Echiejile in the first half.

Shola Ameobi : 5 - Less effective for the Super Eagles than his pre - season form for Newcastle United. Maybe he lacked service. Needs a lot of work to do in order to convince the handlers to take him to Brazil if Nigeria qualifies for the mundial.

Victor Obinna: 6.5 - Showed flashes of individual brilliance. Was the Super Eagles most threatening striker in the first half. Just after the half hour mark, he released one of his trademark shots.

Nnamdi Oduamadi : 6 - Could have been on the score-sheet in the 11th minute but his anticipation let him down.

Victor Moses : 7.5 - When introduced, was a constant nuisance to the Bafana Bafana defense as you would expect.

Ahmed Musa : 7 - Got behind the South Africa defense several times and was involved in both goals scored by the Eagles. For Uche's 'Made in Limburg' goal, he did all the work, and his ex teammate just had to tap in.

Uche Nwofor : 9 - What more can I say about the VVV Venlo star? Mark the date in your calender, August 14, 2013. A star is born starring U-C-H-E N-W-O-F-O-R. Aged just 21, he could be the new Rashidi Yekini.

Brown Ideye : 4 - Did not spend enough time on the pitch. This is a big season for Ideye, it must be said. Being a World Cup year, he's down the pecking order of strikers in his club and the National Team.

James Okwuosa : 5 -  Excellent PR job by the National Team handlers, inviting the Chippa United man to replace Emenike in the roster. Appears to be a cultured defender.
