Dele Aiyenugba Delighted With Bnei Yehuda's First Opening Day Win In Ten Seasons
Published: August 25, 2013For the first time in the last ten seasons, Israeli top division team Bnei Yehuda, which parades the out of favour Nigeria international Dele Aiyenugba, has won its opening fixture in the championship.
That unwelcome statistic was thrown in the bin on Saturday, thanks to Yoro Lamian Ly's 40th minute strike in the 1 - 0 victory over Ashdod at the Bloomfield Stadium, Tel Aviv.
Goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has expressed delight at the hard fought opening day win over Juwon Oshaniwa's Ashdod.
'' It feels great to open the season with a victory. This is my fifth season with Bnei Yehuda and have never won the opening game of the season and it is very important for all of us, players and fans. I'm very, very happy,'' Sports Walla quoted Aiyenugba as saying.
The Lions have won the Israeli championship just once, back in the 1989 - 1990 campaign.
29 - year - old Aiyenugba believes Bnei Yehuda can win the league if the team does not lose focus.
'' Everything can be possible, if we start well then it's a sign of good things to happen. We will continue to work hard and not lose concentration.
'' Have a good feeling at the club since we returned from training in the Netherlands and the preparation was quite good.
'' We push ourselves forward and it is important that we continue to work,'' adds Aiyenugba.
Dele Aiyenugba was complimented on his performance by the fans and Israeli media after the match.
