Iran will play their first friendly match of 2014 versus Guinea in Tehran on March 5, informs persianfootball.com.

The Asian Cup qualifier versus Kuwait, which initially had been scheduled for this FIFA matchday, was moved to March 2 in order to allow Iran pursuing the World Cup preparations.

Guinea shall act as sparring partner in order to prepare Team Melli for their World Cup opener versus Nigeria on June 16.

The West Africans, coached by Frenchman Michel Dussuyer, currently stand in 61st position of the FIFA ranking – 28 spots behind Iran – and are 12th in the African ranking.

Guinea’s roster mainly consists of European based players among which players from the French league are the majority.

Most famous are AC Milan midfielder Kevin Constant, Rayo Vallecano striker Alhassane Bangoura and Vfb Stuttgart forward Ibrahima Traore.
