Flamingoes To Meet Spain In Quarterfinals After Win Over Mexico
Published: March 24, 2014The Mexico Under 17 National Team were brought back to reality at the ongoing Fifa Under 17 World Cup after they fell 3 - 0 to their Nigerian counterparts on Sunday.
Going into the clash at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, both continental powerhouses had qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition.
The students of Bala Nikyu dominated the action from start to finish with their first goal coming in the 12th minute through Rasheedat Ajibade.
Four minutes later, the Flamingoes doubled their lead after a header by Uchenna Kanu for her third goal of the tourney.
And in the second half, Aminat Yakubu made sure the story did not change after heading in Kanu’s cross just before the hour mark.
With the victory, Nigeria finished first in Group D and will face Spain in the last eight on March 27 while Mexico square off with Japan in Liberia.
