Exclusive: Payback Time - Henry Galeano Slaps Nigeria Under 17 Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke In Togo
Published: April 22, 2014While the Golden Eaglets might be churning out impressive performances in their build up to the CAF Under 17 Championship qualifiers, controversy still trails the manager of the four - time world champions, Emmanuel Amuneke.
Recall that this portal earlier reported that the retired Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon winger was collecting bribe and insisting that the hopefuls sign contracts with him and his academy before accepting them in what is termed an open screening.
As they say, a leopard does not change its spots.. and not so soon. Just yesterday, Emmanuel Amuneke was involved in a violent altercation with Henry Galeano, the same man he faced off with after the tournament in United Arab Emirates.
Galeano, the agent of Manchester City trainee Kelechi Iheanacho, had visited the team’s camp to scout for fresh talents at the WAFU B Under 17 championship currently taking place in Lome, Toge.
An insider in the Golden Eaglets camp explained to allnigeriasoccer.com : “Henry Galeano visited the Eaglets camp but Amuneke told the security people to push him out. But the agent refused insisting that he has the right to be in Togo as this is not Nigeria.
“Amuneke wanted to know his mission in the camp, told him he was not welcome there and blasted him for not giving him a percentage of Iheanacho’s transfer fee to Manchester City. The agent slapped Amuneke and this snowballed into a fight.”
“They fought seriously. Henry Galeano simply told him that slap was a revenge for what Amuneke did to him in Owerri.”
Despite the off the field distractions, the Nigeria Under 17 team defeated Mali 2 - 0 in their opening match of the tournament, with goals from Najeeb Hamza and Dauda AbdulGaniyu.
