Alfred Effiong scored his first international goal for Malta in an international friendly that took place on Monday against Lithuania.

The Nigerian - born player came off the bench in the second half and sealed victory for his adopted country with an 80th minute wonder goal after Paul Fenech had given the Island Nation a one - goal advantage shortly after the hour mark.

He started a dribble from his own half, beat three defenders before striking the ball from 25 yards.

Even the Lithuanian goalkeeper was very delighted with the 30 - year - old’s solo effort that he ran all the way from 60 yards to celebrate with the Qormi striker.

Alfred Effiong, who is married to a Maltese lady, has three international caps for Malta.
