Eniola Aluko failed to get off the mark after making eight appearances for England at the Fifa Women’s World Cup which is taking place in Canada.

Against Mexico tonight, the Chelsea striker was more lively in attack compared to The Three Lionesses opener with France.

Before the interval the 28 - year - old would have given England the lead but she cracked her shot against the post.

With the game still goalless in the second half, she saw her shot saved by goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago and would have given England a two - goal cushion after Kirby had opened scoring in the 71st minute.

On 82 minutes, Carney scored an insurance goal for England before Ibarra pulled a goal back in injury time.

Eniola Aluko, wearing the number nine shirt, was on the Moncton Stadium turf for 90 minutes.
