Super Falcons Defender Ugo Njoku Fined =N=640,000 By Fifa For Violent Conduct
Published: June 15, 2015
Super Falcons defender Ugo Njoku has been banned for three matches by Fifa for an elbow jab against Australia’s Samantha Kerr during a Women’s World Cup clash last Friday.
It means the Rivers Angels star will no longer be available for selection except Nigeria manages to advance to the semi - finals of the competition taking place in Canada.
And if the African champions crash out in the first round, the 20 - year - old will sit out Nigeria’s next two competitive fixtures.
Ugo Njoku has also been fined 3,000 Swiss francs (equivalent of =N=640,000) by Fifa after video replays showed she was found guilty of violent conduct.
But Nigeria coach Edwin Okon has defended the 20 - year - old, saying her action was not deliberate.
This could be a one - off incident as Ugo Njoku’s disciplinary record at Fifa tournaments has been exemplary, having been cautioned only once in 15 matches.
