Rashidi Yekini Foundation Thanks LMC For Adopting AwardFollowing the League Management Company’s pronouncement, naming  the highest goalscorer award for the Nigeria Professional Football League after Super Eagles legend, the Rashidi Yekini Foundation that initiated the idea has thanked the LMC for adopting and accepting to immortalise the player who scored a total of 37 goals in 58 appearances for Nigeria.

While reacting to the news, counsel to the late Goal-king, Barr. Jubril Olanrewaju Mohammed who is also a member and spoke person of Yekini Foundation told newsmen in Ibadan that though he received the news with mixed feelings but still want to thank the League Management for the development.

“The main objective of the foundation is to etch the name ‘Yekini’ in a sand of times, because we have come to realized that, it won’t be easy organizing memorial event for him annually, but instituting an award in our league where my late client had recorded highest goals severally and also with the national team would be more logical.

“Hence necessitated our letter to the LMC on 1st of June, informing them of our proposal to have the Highest Goalscorer Award in the Nigerian League with the cash of =N=100,000 for the eventual winner, and the scribe of LMC replied us through mail on 14th June 2015 where he acknowledged receipt of the proposal and pledged to get back to us.

“I was only reading it on the pages of newspapers just like everybody did that the LMC would soon unveil an award for Rashidi Yekini.

“I’m very happy because our objective and ideal of the foundation have been achieved, although I would have expected the LMC to inform us that they have adopted and expanded the idea.

“The foundation is ready to collaborate with the LMC to make as clamorous as we have in mind, because the plan is to have the two daughters of the late striker in attendance any time the award would take place and probably having the honour of presenting to the eventual winner”, Yekini lawyer opined.

He added that the foundation is taken it one after the other, the first agenda is to have Yekini’s name immortalized and also promoting the foundation to be able to raise resources to support the education of the deceased.

“As you will recall that the first daughter of Yekini, Mariam is schooling at Leicester University United Kingdom and we are hoping to use the foundation to support her education and the second one, Yemisi living in Nigeria has just wrote her O’level and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams and she passed them very well with very encouraging results.

“Her intention is to read Law at the University of Ilorin, the responsibility of the foundation is to raise enough fund to make her realize this lofty dreams”.
