Editorial : Five Things That Prove Oliseh Is Already Ticking The Right Boxes
Published: July 30, 2015It is no longer news that Sunday Oliseh has been chosen as the Super Eagles Coach. Even though he has not handled a game in charge, he has done some things that would be worthy of note.
So many things have been said about his about appointment, some believe he lacks experience, some also have a different opinion.
We take a look at those things Oliseh might have done outside the coaching dugout.
SETTING A STANDARD
When Sunday Oliseh was unveiled he spoke about the need of his (Nigerian) players to be playing top level football which will aid their exposure and efficiency as a player and as regard to tactics.
He said that he will not call up players from lower league in Europe and in Nigeria but will need players in the top league only with exception of few up coming talent from the youth teams (the U-17,U-20 and U-23)teams who might need the national team experience to make the right move in the career at club level
He entails a change of mentality for to play at the high level (with regular playing time) if we are to return the glory days.
WILLINGNESS TO TRAIL FOREIGN TALENT
Sunday Oliseh is a strong willed man, thanks to God that we have him now to use that willpower to do the positive for Nigeria.
This willingness to approach young talents (foreign born) to improve the Nigerian National Team is a sign that he is not bereft of ideas on what to do in order to succeed on Nigeria’s coaching hot seat.
On the other hand he is already tracking Nigeria players in Europe who are doing well in the on going pre-season.
RELATIONSHIP WITH NFF
His ability to form a cordial relationship with the Nigerian football Authority (NFF) is a sign of good thing to come as he moved quickly to settle the issue between the NFF and Vincent Enyeama citing Enyeama as an important member of his Super Eagles plan.
There is a need for NFF and Oliseh to have a good relationship so that both parties can work together in effectiveness.
The fact that NFF have a good rapour with him will be needful.
This established relationship will be key for Oliseh to perform and silence his critics on the Super Eagles job.
RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR EXPERIENCE
The fact that Oliseh did not hesitate to settle Vincent Enyeama case with (NFF) Nigeria football Federation is an indication that Oliseh recognizes the importance for experience in the Super Eagles.
Vincent Enyeama has reached the century cap mark for the Super Eagles and his experience will be handy as he guards Nigeria between the sticks .
He made mention about the return of John Obi Mikel, a Nigerian legend with 10 (ten) years of massive experience for a top level side at Chelsea.
Mikel has acquired enough experience which will help his team-mate tap for inspiration. It is good that Oliseh knows that
Mikel’s experience will handy in the national team if we are to return the new super eagles to where it belongs in the football map.
Oliseh recognizes the need for experience in the Super Eagles.
This recognition will be key to what Oliseh can make out for our darling team the Super Eagles.
LOWERING OF EXPECTATIONS
After his unveiling as the Super Eagles Coach he went straight to tell Nigeria that he is not the Messiah of Nigerian Football but vowed to give a 150% as a passionate Nigerian who wants to succeed on the hot seat.
In a country of Nigeria’s caliber expectations are very high and Nigerians naturally lack patience especially as regards to football.
He might have done the needful to lower expectation in order to create room for success bearing in mind the pressure in
Nigerian football.
We hope that Oliseh(Nigeria’s Pep Guardiola) will the deliver the required results for Nigeria just as the man whose name in bracket delivered for FC Barcelona.
