Dream Team Come Out Unscathed Against Congo; Qualify For CAF Under 23 Championship
Published: August 02, 2015The Dream Team VI have qualified for the CAF Under 23 Championship after drawing goalless with Congo in the away leg of their qualifier in Pointe - Noire on Sunday evening.
The Nigeria Olympic Team , who had defeated the Congo U23s 2 - 1 in the first leg, were put under pressure by their opponents but came out unscathed to advance to the tournament in Senegal.
On 11 minutes, Usman Mohammed would have given Nigeria the lead but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Mafoumbi.
After they could not find the back of the net in the first half, coach Samson Siasia introduced Aminu Umar and Kingsley Sokari in the second half in search of an insurance goal but the scoreline remained goalless at the end.
Nigeria will qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio if they finish among the top three teams in the second edition of the CAF Under 23s holding in Senegal from 28 November – 12 December 2015.
