Obafemi Martins Marks Return From Injury With Brace
Published: August 17, 2015Having spent two months on the sidelines, Obafemi Martins marked his return to the first team of Seattle Sounders by netting a brace in his side’s 4 - 0 victory against Orlando City in the MLS on Sunday night.
The Nigeria international gave Sounders the lead in the 17th minute before scoring his ninth goal of the season in the league 17 minutes out of intermission.
Joining Martins in attack at CenturyLink Field for the first time in the MLS was Paraguay international Nelson Valdez, who played alongside the Nigerian at Rubin Kazan during the 2011 - 2012 season.
“I played with (Valdez) on (Russian side) Rubin Kazan for a while. We’ve played against each other too. So we’re quite close,.” Martins told reporters in his post match comments.
“We know each other, he’s a good guy, so we’re happy to have him here and we can’t wait for Clint (Dempsey) to get back as well for the team to be more solid.”
Prior to Sunday’s game, Obafemi Martins missed the last nine games due to a groin injury.
