On Saturday, Anthony Nwakaeme entered the record books as the first player to score a goal at the newly opened Yaakov Turner Toto Stadium, the new home ground of Hapoel Be’er Sheva, after finding the back of the net against Maccabi Petah Tikva.
The historic moment came in the fifth minute when he hit target for the first time as a Hapoel Be’er Sheva player and ran to celebrate with the fans of The Camels.
Two goals from Elyaniv Barda in the 29th and 35th minutes gave Hapoel Beer Sheva a 3 - 1 lead at the end of the first half, with Mohammed Kalibat cancelling out Nwakaeme’s goal in the 21st minute.
The Nigerian forward netted his second of the night in the 89th minute to put the home team 4 - 2 up before Maharan Radi added more gloss to the scoreline in the third minute of injury time.
Nigeria international John Ogu proposed to his girlfriend on the pitch at the end of the game.
