Sunday Oliseh Suggests Obi Mikel Is The De Facto Skipper Of Super Eagles
Published: October 09, 2015
Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has hinted that John Obi Mikel is the de facto captain of his team and sang the praises of the Chelsea midfielder on the back of his impressive performance against Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly on Thursday.
Indeed, the former Lyn Oslo starlet caught the eyes of many at the VISE Stadium, with several observers rating him the best player on the pitch on a day the Super Eagles surprisingly failed to sparkle despite fielding a full - strength side in midfield and attack.
“I was very impressed with John Obi Mikel, it is being a long time I have not seen him play like this,” Sunday Oliseh said to thenff.com
“He carried the team, he moved, he was mobile and he was doing something I asked him to do I like very much. He was taking charge and telling players what to do.
“When we have a player playing in Chelsea like John Obi Mikel in the team he shouldn’t be led and he did that very well today, and I am praying he continues like this.”
Thursday’s game was the first time Obi Mikel was playing under Sunday Oliseh and the 28 - year - old was the only midfielder that went the distance against the Central Africans.
