Golden Eaglets Striker Orji Okonkwo Dedicates Wonder Goal To Mom
Published: November 06, 2015
Abuja Football College striker Orji Okonkwo has dedicated his goal against Mexico in the semi - final of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup to his mother.
The suspension of Funsho Bamgboye following the two bookings he picked up in the knock out rounds opened a space in attack for Okonkwo and he repaid the manager’s faith by scoring the best goal of his career in the 43rd minute.
“I have never scored a goal like this before and you cannot practice this kind of goal, ” Okonwko told thenff.com.
“The goal I scored against Mexico today is a wonderful goal and I’m dedicating the goal to my mum who has been there for me; challenging me to be the best.
“My dad died last year; I remember him too but it is my mum that has been there for me all this while. I thank her so much.”
Okonkwo has clocked up 114 minutes of game time at the ongoing tournament and appeared in games against USA, Australia and Brazil before he was handed his first start against Mexico.
