Aaron Samuel Pencils Six Players Down For Trials After 5-Aside Football Competition
Published: November 07, 2015Super Eagles striker Aaron Samuel has expressed satisfaction after successfully organizing a 5-aside football competition in Port Harcourt.
In the mini-tournament which lasted two days, Port Harcourt City FC emerged winners after winning 7-6 on penalties with the game ending at 1-1 after normal time.
And Samuel says he has been impressed with the quality of the competition.
“I have definitely been impressed by what I have seen,” he said immediately after the final match.
“It was a great tournament and it was very competitive and the boys came out and gave their best. I am happy with the quality of play.”
The 21-year would go on to confirm that he has already pencilled six players down for onward referrals to clubs abroad and it is understood that a top Nigerian scout Udia Attai, who has strong ties to Norwegian clubs, witnessed the two - day event.
“I have pencilled six players down that I will introduce to my agent and from there we will see how things go, as it regards them getting clubs abroad,” Samuel said.
Samuel further stressed that the tournament will henceforth, be an annual event.
“It is going to be an annual event from now,” he said. “We’re looking at having this tournament every November so as to encourage these young players,” he added.
Meanwhile, Port Harcourt City FC, as winners of the tournament, were rewarded with a cash prize of N500, 000.
