Published: December 13, 2015
Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia, has shared his thoughts and impressions on Nigeria winning their first Africa U-23 Cup of Nations trophy.
The former Nantes and Lokeren striker was in the dugout in 2008 when the Dream Team qualified for the final of the football event of the Olympic Games and he is aiming to win the competition in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
“I’m very happy today to have won this trophy, even if it was difficult, but the essential thing was done. It was not easy for us taking into considerations the teams we met in the first and second round, ” said Siasia.
“Algeria is a good team and they showed that on the pitch, and playing well. My players also did well by scoring the goals we needed to win the match. ”
Siasia went on : “Now we will continue to work, correct our mistakes and improve our game.
“I was coach of Nigeria during the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, when we reached the final, and in 2016 we will aim to do more than reaching the final by winning the trophy.”
Nigeria were the only undefeated country at the end of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, winning three games and drawing two others.
