Porto Teen Sensation Awaziem Issues Come-And-Get-Me Plea To Nigeria U23s Coach Siasia
Published: April 06, 2016Porto teenage sensation Chidozie Awaziem has not yet been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation but has his sights set on representing the Dream Team VI at the 2016 Olympic Games.
The 19-year-old has broken into the first team of the two-time European champions, making six starts in the Primeira Liga to date, having been handed his debut by manager José Peseiro in the O Clássico on February 12, 2016.
Awaziem thinks he has all the qualities needed to succeed in the Nigeria U23s setup just as he has done for Porto.
“No, I have not yet been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation and the coaches. Of course, I will like to represent my country at the Olympic Games,” Chidozie Awaziem told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I don’t think I play like anybody, I am who I am and I don’t think I will be here today if I don’t have the qualities. I wasn’t a central defender initially, I was converted to a central defender.
“I am a defensive midfielder and I am happy playing in both positions.”
Ever since he was promoted to the first team of Porto, Awaziem has been encouraged by the stars in the ranks of the Estádio do Dragão outfit and coach José Peseiro.
“It has been hard work and determination, it has not been easy though but I am learning and with the help of God.
“Before I made my debut I was told by the coach to go and play the way I used to play and be more concentrated.
“The first team players are all good people and they have all welcomed me well,” Awaziem concluded.
Chidozie Awaziem has been rewarded for his excellent start to his career with the first team of Porto, with the club offering him a fresh contract in March.
