Echiejile May Be Sanctioned By Disciplinary Committee After Fifth Red Card In Europe
Published: April 10, 2016
Elderson Echiejile was sent off for the fifth time since he moved to Europe in 2007 as Monaco were humiliated 4-1 by Vincent Enyeama’s Lille in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigeria international was issued a straight red card by referee Sebastien Moreira in the 65th minute after his high foot caught Corchia as both competed for the ball.
Lille piled more misery on the Principality side after Echiejile was dismissed, scoring three goals through Eder,Mounir Obbadi and Djibril Sidibe playing ten against ten.
The wing-back was red carded for the first time in November 2011 while defending the colours of Sporting Braga in a Cup clash against Sporting CP and earned his second red card the following month against Club Brugge in a Europa League fixture.
For the next 14 months, Echiejile improved his disciplinary record until he was sent off again in Braga’s 3-2 win over Vitória Guimarães on February 23,2013 in the league before he was dismissed two months later against Estoril.
The left-back will definitely miss Monaco’s tie with Marseille next weekend and the Disciplinary Committee may impose an additional penalty on Thursday after it reviews the incident.
