Two players of Nigerian descent- Ademola Lookman and Nicky Ajose- were recognized at The Football League Awards 2016 at a gala ceremony held at Manchester Central on Sunday evening.
Still only 18, Charlton Athletic rising star Lookman was named the LFE Apprentice of the Year for the Championship and saw off competition from David Popa (Birmingham City) and Mathew Hudson (Preston North End) to win the award.
The Addicks might be struggling to stay afloat but their teenage striker has been one of the success stories in the league, with 4 goals from 20 appearances, and has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League.
Swindon Town striker Nicky Ajose was named to the Football Manager Team of the Season and led the frontline alongside Kemar Roofe (Oxford United) and Andre Gray (Burnley).
The former Manchester United starlet is the top scorer in League One with 22 goals from 34 appearances.
Dennis Adeniran’s Fulham won the Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year for providing the best experience to families during match days.
