Chelsea Loanee Omeruo Rejected Overtures From Siasia To Represent Nigeria At Olympic Games
Published: April 24, 2016
Kasımpaa defender Kenneth Omeruo rejected the opportunity to represent the Nigeria U23s at the 2016 Olympic Games when he was contacted by coach Samson Siasia.
This website earlier reported that the Chelsea loanee’s name was missing from the list of 60 players sent to the Nigeria Football Federation.
“Siasia contacted Omeruo and asked him if he wants to play at the Olympic Games. His answer was negative, so that’s the reason he was dropped ” an official source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Omeruo has proved a bright spark since he featured for the Nigeria setup at the Fifa Under 17 World Cup and his performance was highlighted when he helped the senior team win the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
The central defender, 22,would have easily made the Dream Team VI roster for the competition in Brazil as he is still within the age limit.
