Nigeria Professional Football League Player Dies After Spinal Cord Injury
Published: May 05, 2016Giwa FC of Jos have lost their goalkeeper, Timothy Chichi Okere to the cold hands of death after a prolonged spinal cord related ailment. The goalkeeper died yesterday in Jos.
Okere was in goal throughout Giwa’ s campaign in the Nigeria National League and played a leading role towards helping the team to gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League three years ago but later lost his first team shirt to Flying Eagles goaltender Ojo Olorunleke at the commencement of the team’ s campaign in the NPFL.
He was reported to have sustained a back injury in training two years ago and was hospitalized at Bima hospital in Jos was later discharged but readmitted following a relapse.
The Media Officer of the team, David King, had confirmed the unfortunate incident to allnigeriasoccer.com this morning but said the club was awaiting communication from the player’s family on the burial arrangements.
