Allnigeriasoccer.com checks on the progress of players of Nigerian descent in the European Leagues on Tuesday.
MSV Duisburg have been relegated to the third-tier after losing 4-1 over two legs to Wuerzburger Kickers in the Bundesliga 2 Playoffs Final. Nigerian pair Victor Obinna and Kingsley Onuegbu started the game at the MSV-Arena.
Obinna was however sent off in the 89th minute for being rude to the referee, Tobias Stieler. The ex-Inter Milan and West Ham star was fouled twice in the area by the opponents but the officials did not award any penalty.
At the Stadio Dino Manuzzi in Italy, David Okereke was an unused substitute in Spezia’s 2-1 win at A.C. Cesena in the Serie B playoffs.
Elsewhere, in Romania, Michael Odibe netted the game-winner in the 16th minute for Concordia Chiajna in their 1-0 win over Petrolul Ploiesti.
The central defender and fellow Nigeria international Christian Obodo worked a ninety-minute shift for Concordia Chiajna.
Finally, Maccabi Tel Aviv lost the State Cup final to Maccabi Haifa (1-0) after missing out on the Premier League title. Super Eagles midfielder Nosa Igiebor clocked up 76 minutes for the Yellows before he was substituted.
