Injured Maurice Edu Gutted To Miss Copa America
Published: May 27, 2016
Philadelphia Union captain Maurice Edu is disappointed that he won’t be involved at the 2016 Copa América Centenario which will hold in his homeland next month.
The experienced midfielder has not kicked a ball in a competitive fixture this season due to a stress fracture in his left leg.
“It’s one of those situations where you can’t feel bad for yourself. It sucks but these things happen,” Edu told MLSsoccer.com.
“The most important thing for me now is to get myself fit and playing well and just have the confidence to believe those things will work themselves out.”
The 30-year-old Edu was eligible to represent the Nigeria National Team before pledging his international future to the Americans, and has racked up 46 appearances for the country since his debut against Switzerland.
The San Bernardino native had spells with Toronto, Rangers and Stoke City, followed by Bursaspor before joining Philadelphia Union in 2014.
