(See Document) Chidiebere Nwakali Offered Opportunity To Join Arsenal Before Man City
Published: December 16, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that former Nigeria U20 international Chidiebere Nwakali was offered the opportunity to join Arsenal before he was snapped up by Manchester City in 2014.
The Gunners had extensively scouted the defensive midfielder during the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup and firmed up their interest in him after the tourney by inviting him for trials.
But representatives of Nwakali later pulled the plug on the deal because they insisted on him being offered a contract without undergoing tests.
It is for the same reason that another ex-Golden Eaglets star Victor Osimhen missed out on a move to the Emirates before agreeing terms with Wolfsburg in 2016, with Arsenal chiefs wanting him to undergo tests before he is offered a deal.
Nigeria U20 skipper Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze trained with Arsenal before the London team agreed to sign them from their local clubs.
