Leicester Star Ndidi On GOTY Award : I Did Not Expect To Score Wonder Goal
Published: March 01, 2017Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has spoken of his happiness after winning Het Laatste Nieuws’ 2016 Goal of the Year award.
The Nigeria international claimed the award for his brilliant half-volley from distance in Racing Genk’s 4-2 win over Club Brugge in April 2016, and he has admitted that he never knew the ball will end up in the back of the net.
“It was the goal against Club Brugge. We won 4-2 against the later champions. I still remember the crowd and the way I took the ball, ” Ndidi told Leicester’s official website.
“I was a bit confused. I didn’t expect to score like that when I took the shot. I’ve scored a few goals so far in my career, a few nice ones too.
“It comes gradually. As I grow into a game, I try to take my chances.”
Ndidi is carving out a reputation for scoring from distance after opening his Foxes account with a 25-yard piledriver in their 3-1 win over Derby County in the Emirates FA Cup last month.
