Fifa U20 World Cup : Promising Defender Torunarigha Impresses As Germany Settle For A Point
Published: May 23, 2017Hertha Berlin Nigerian starlet Jordan Torunarigha was a surprise inclusion in Germany U20s starting eleven in their goalless draw with Mexico at the Fifa U20 World Cup on Tuesday.
The central defender had one training session with the German team on South Korean soil before today's meeting at Daejeon World Cup Stadium, due to club commitments.
Torunarigha, wearing the number 14 jersey, went the distance and helped goalkeeper Svend Brodersen to post a shutout.
In the first half, Fabian Reese had the best chance to give Germany the lead but blazed over the bar with the goal at his mercy, before TSG 1899 Hoffenheim winger Philipp Ochs squandered another chance with eight minutes left.
Per the official teamsheet of Fifa, the second player of Nigerian descent named in Germany's roster, Emmanuel Iyoha, has arrived in South Kkorea, two days after making the match day squad for the 2 Bundesliga tie with Erzgebirge Aue.
The Fortuna Düsseldorf striker will be hoping to make his debut in the competition when Germany wrap up group play against Vanuatu on Friday.
