Dominic Solanke Snubs Nigeria, Targets World Cup Spot For England
Published: November 14, 2017Chelsea product Dominic Solanke reckons that he has a chance of making England's 2018 World Cup roster, and will become ineligible to represent the Super Eagles in future if he is cap-tied to the Three Lions during the football festival in Russia.
Having starred for England's youth teams over the years, the Liverpool striker, who has a Nigerian father, earned his first call-up to the senior national team for Tuesday night's friendly against Brazil at the National Stadium in London.
''It came as a surprise really but I’d like to think that being a footballer anything can happen,'' Solanke stated at Monday's pre-match press conference attended by Independent UK.
''Things change quickly in football and when you get your chance you have to take it. It’s all about confidence and believe and if you get the opportunity you have to take it.
''Obviously the World Cup is the target for every England player. There’s still a long season ahead and everybody has to do everything they can at their clubs. And then we will see what it’s like at the end of the season.''
Tammy Abraham is the other Nigeria Football Federation target that was called up by the English FA for their friendlies in November.
