Why Chelsea Refused To Sign Manchester United's Alexis? Conte Explains
Published: January 24, 2018Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has claimed that the Premier League champions were never interested in making a move for former Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile sensation completed his transfer to Manchester United on Monday, joining the club on a four-and-a-half-year deal until June 30, 2022.
It has been claimed that United's new number seven will take home 500,000 pounds every week, an amount that would have disrupted the wage structure at Chelsea assuming they had signed him.
''We never were in this race. Ever. Especially because one of the reasons was this amount of salary,'' Conte was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
''Only one or two clubs can pay this type of salary.
"Manchester United and Manchester City stay there and we have to try and build something important to create a basis, and then make success with our work. Not with money. With work.''
Sanchez has quadrupled his wages by moving to Manchester United as he received £130,000 per week at Arsenal.
