Rohr Reveals Strategy To Stop Barcelona Superstar Messi, Sends Spies To Watch Argentina
Published: March 28, 2018Coach Gernot Rohr believes the Super Eagles players can stop Argentina superstar Lionel Messi from scoring when the two sides clash at the 2018 World Cup on June 26, if the striker is fielded.
For the fifth time at the World Cup, Nigeria have been drawn to face the two-time world champions, with Croatia and Iceland completing Group D.
''Nothing is impossible. The only solution against Messi is a collective and not an individual solution. We will have time to observe,'' Rohr was quoted as saying by Besoccer.
''If Argentina wins its first two games, Messi may not want to play against us, that's another possibility.''
Nigeria thrashed Argentina 4-2 in a pre-World Cup friendly last November but Messi, who had been named in the squad, returned to Barcelona before the game in Krasnodar.
Rohr confirmed that he sent his spies to watch Argentina's 2-0 win over Italy at the Etihad Stadium on March 23.
