Super Eagles captain Musa shares his career highlights: Best club that made him shine, top goal revealed

Of all the clubs he has represented in his career, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has admitted that he played his best football at Russian Premier League outfit CSKA Moscow.

The Golden Boot Soccer Academy product, Nigeria's most capped played in history, turned out for JUTH and Kano Pillars in his homeland before moving to Europe to showcase his skills at VVV Venlo in October 2010.

In January 2012, Musa joined CSKA Moscow, where he became a fan favourite, winning three Russian Premier League titles as well as the Russian Cup and Russian Super Cup.

After leaving the Muscovites in 2016, he wore the colours of Leicester City, Al-Nassr, Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor.

In addition to these clubs, Musa has been a key player for the Nigerian national team, representing them in multiple African Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups.

In search of more playing opportunities before the 2018 World Cup, he returned for a second spell at CSKA Moscow in January 2018, where he registered six goals and three assists in ten matches, bringing his total goal involvements for the Army Men to an impressive 94 in 184 games.

Speaking to Victor Modo, Musa said: "I am going to say CSKA Moscow because that is where I had my best career. I stayed long over there, more than five years, won a lot of trophies before I transferred to Leicester City.

"So for me I would say my best moment in my club career is CSKA Moscow."

Musa revealed that the best goal in the Russian Premier League was a stunning strike from outside the box against Krasnodar during the 2015-2016 season.

Regarding the best goal he has scored at club level, he said: "I have a lot but I'm going to say CSKA Moscow against Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia. I scored one of my best goals. I scored against Krasnodar. It was goalless in the dying minutes.

"After that goal, I was leaving CSKA so the celebration was so massive because the goal was outside the 18-yard-box, unexpected shot."

In October 2024, Musa returned to Kano Pillars for a remarkable third spell, rekindling his ties with the club where he first made a name for himself.
