Tosin Kehinde Wants To Be The First Nigerian-Born Footballer To Play For Man Utd
Published: April 03, 2018Lagos-born midfielder Tosin Kehinde recently committed his international future to Nigeria over England and he's targeting a spot in Manchester United's first-team next season.
If he actualizes his dreams of being promoted to the first team by manager Jose Mourinho, he would become the first player born in Nigeria to represent the English Premier League giants.
The last player of Nigerian descent to represent the Red Devils first team was former Republic of Ireland defender Paul McGrath back in the 1988-89 season.
''I hope to play in the first team, that's every player's dream and my dream also,'' Kehinde told BBC Sport.
"The manager's [Jose Mourinho's] continued belief in the youth and giving people opportunity has made me feel that if I keep working hard maybe I can get the opportunity as well.''
Kehinde, Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe represented United in the UEFA Youth League three years ago and all these players apart from the Nigerian have gone on to make their first-team debuts for the Old Trafford outfit.
The 19-year-old central midfielder cum left wing-back has trained with the first-team this season.
