France 8 Nigeria 0: Ruthless Les Bleues Run Riot Against Understrength Falcons
Published: April 06, 2018Nigeria's Super Falcons got on the receiving end of a 8-0 thrashing by their French counterparts at the MMArena in Le Mans on Friday night.
Valerie Gauvin netted an hat-trick, with Le Sommer, Gaetane Thiney, Aminata Diallo and Marie-Charlotte Léger also getting on the scoresheet.
Faith Ikidi deflected the ball to the back of the net for the 7th goal.
Despite the heavy scoreline the game was a good test for the Super Falcons who converged for the first time since winning the 2016 African Women's Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The destruction began in the 20 minutes, to be exact—when Sommer got on the end of a pass to drive home at the back post.
Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie had a torrid time attempting to keep the hosts at bay and conceded a sloppy second when she failed to deal with Gauvin's effort.
There was a bit more skill required for the France's third, however, and Gaetane exposed Nnadozie's poor positioning to convert a cross with her head.
The visitors looked less motivated to compete during Friday's contest but simply didn't look to be at the races .
That lack of competition was best shown by Nigeria's lack of will to compete.
Diallo made it 4-0 on the half hour while Gauvin added two more for her treble.
There was still more in the offing for France. Ikidi scored an own goal while substitute Leger got a fair share of the largesse with a stoppage time strike.
