Crotone's Simy On Super Eagles Call-Up: No Contact With Rohr, Targets Strong Finish
Published: May 02, 2018Crotone striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo is one of the names being bandied about by the local media for a shock inclusion in the Super Eagles provisional squad list for the 2018 World Cup.
Although Nwankwo would not hesitate if he is summoned to the national team, he has made it crystal clear that his priority is to finish the season strongly.
''There has not been contact with the national team officials, but that is not my focus now as I still have an ongoing season to try and finish strong with my team and reach our objective, '' says Simy to allnigeriasoccer.com.
The 25-year-old is in the form of his life, with five goals in his last five matches for the Red and Blues in the Italian topflight including a brilliant strike against Juventus, which has helped the team to climb out of the relegation zone.
''There's no big secret behind my recent form other than hard work and patience as I have to wait so long for a chance to show my worth.
''The goal against Juventus I will say is instinct. As a striker, you just have to be ready for everything in the box, that's how we score goals,'' Simy concluded.
Born and raised in Onitsha, Simy represented Future Hope Academy Nkpor, G.U.O FC and Imo United in his homeland before joining the youth team of Portuguese club Portimonense in August 2010.
